New Haven, Conn. - For much of this season, the Panthers have hung with their opposition.
Unfortunately, the No. 10 seed Adelphi University women's basketball team fell short at No. 7 Southern Connecticut State University, 72-66, in NE10 Tournament first-round action Friday night in New Haven.
Although the Panthers (10-16) trailed by as many as nineteen in the second half, Adelphi stormed back to close the gap to two possessions.
Adelphi won the fourth quarter, to the tune of a glaring 27-17 scoreline. Slowly, the SCSU crept to single digits and by the 4:04 mark, the Brown and Gold were within seven.
Graduate guard
Lauren Hammersley hit a three at almost the midway mark of the quarter to get the deficit under ten, and senior forward
Jenna Jordan followed with a pair of lay-ups to make it a 61-54 game.
As the Panthers seemed to be within striking distance, Zoe Amalbert knocked down a three with 1:39 left to strike the dagger.
In what turned out to be her last game in an Adelphi uniform,
Ty'zhea Hawkins poured in a game-high 20 points on 9-of-19 shooting. Jordan had an efficient 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting, and Hammersley dropped 16 points in a season-high 35 minutes.
This result concludes the 2022-23 season for the Adelphi University women's basketball team. Keep it tuned to
