Purdie's Panthers Best Miller's '03 Fighting Knights, 15-6

Boca Raton, FL - In a meeting between two former Panthers, Adelphi University took down Lynn University on Monday evening, 15-6 to cap the Florida trip.

Mark Miller, who was chosen to lead the Fighting Knights in 2019, played for Adelphi in 2002 and 2003, earning all-conference honors as a goaltender. Gordon Purdie, was also a standout for the Panthers, and enters his 16th season at the helm. This is just the second meeting all-time between the two teams, as the Knights took the first ever contest 9-7.

After trading goals throughout the first quarter, the Panthers (2-0) tacked on a late one when Nick O'Shea beat the shot clock and found a way past Colin Casey to make it 4-2 Adelphi.

The visitors extended their lead with three more before halftime, holding the hosts to just three shots - none on cage - throughout the second. In the 15 minute stretch, Lynn committed seven turnovers, with Ryan Butler, Nick Paris and Brian Hoerter all forcing one in the frame. Joseph Duchnowski added a pair of tallies and O'Shea added his second of the game to lead 7-2 at the break.

Jack Hipchen scored his third of four for the game to kick off the third quarter and over a minute later the Panthers capitalized on a man-up possession to score its seventh unanswered. Kyle Lewis found a cutting Brian Harinski in front of the goal to make it 9-2. The home team broke the silence after over 30 minutes of scoreless action, for their only goal of the third quarter.

It was Dylan Barry who got things going for Adelphi in the fourth, but the Fighting Knights tacked on two to break the momentum. It was not for long as David Sanzone and Colin Hansen both scored for their first goals of the 2023 season.

Dylan Renner only faced 23 shots as the defense ahead of him collectively caused nine turnovers, finishing with six saves in the victory.

Purdie and his Panthers will return to New York and take on Georgian Court on the road on Wednesday, March 3.
