Orangeburg, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's tennis team went head-to-head with reigning ECC Tournament champion St. Thomas Aquinas College, but lost by a 7-0 final on Saturday evening at the Match Point Tennis Club in Orangeburg.
The pairing of
Gabriel Balestero and
Hugo Munoz Reinoso kept the team doubles point hanging in the balance to start the night, with a 6-4 victory at the No. 1 flight.
All eyes then turned to the No. 2 doubles team of
Marko Jovanovic and
Reece Farrow, who nearly prevailed in a tense 6-7 (5-7) tiebreaker.
In singles, Jovanovic was the lone Panther to take a set off his opponent, He eventually faced the daunting task of another tiebreak, where last year's four-time NE10 Rookie of the Week lost by a tough 10-7 scoreline.
Despite losing in straight sets,
Viktor Hockl played STAC's Lennart Lehmann to a hard-fought 4-6, 5-7 match at No. 4 singles.
Head Coach
Rebecca Fakas and her Adelphi squad play on back-to-back days next weekend at home against Jefferson University (Feb. 25) and Post University (Feb. 26). Both matches will be played at the Point Set Racquet Club in Oceanside.
