Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls to #16 Bentley, 59-42

Garden City, N.Y. - Despite facing a single-digit deficit at halftime, the Adelphi University women's basketball team suffered a 59-42 loss to No. 16 nationally-ranked Bentley University on Saturday afternoon at the Center for Recreation and Sport.

The Falcons surged early out of the gate, winning the first quarter 21-6 on 53.8 percent shooting from the field. The visitors ended the quarter on a dominant 17-0 run.

Offense began to click a little more for the Brown and Gold in the second frame, shooting a game-high 50 percent on 6-of-12 shooting -- including hitting three of their four attempts from beyond the three-point arc. This boost cut the lead to just eight by the break, capped by a Jenna Jordan lay-up.

Coming out of the half, the home team's shooting streak came to an end, shooting 3-for-15, along with tallying an 0-fer on its four attempts from deep. Heading into the fourth, the lead for Bentley had once again crept up to 15.

While staying competitive through the final 10 minutes, the difference proved to be from three-point range, with the Falcons knocking down five of eight attempts, while the Panthers only got one to find the bottom of the net. The hosts won the points in the paint battle 24-16 and earned more second chance points, 11-9.

Rolanda Robinson led the team in both scoring and rebounding with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting, along with pulling down eight boards. Kaitlyn O'Connell grabbed four of her own, along with dishing out five assists, a team-high.

Head Coach Sade Jackson and Adelphi now look ahead to Tuesday night (Dec. 5), when they travel to take on University of New Haven. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
