Men's Soccer Places Four on NE10 All-Conference Team

11/7/2023 2:00:00 PM

Mansfield, Mass. - The make-up of the Adelphi attack has been named to the 2023 NE10 Men's Soccer All-Conference Team, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.

All four NE10 All-Conference players posed as key scoring threats for the 'Cats, who ranked among the Top 5 scoring leaders in the conference with 28 goals.

Victor Castel, Alessio Consoli and Benji Jones were all praised as NE10 First Team All-Conference selections, while Jesper Mikkelsen made the NE10 All-Conference Third Team.

Castel was the team's lead striker on the wing, where he led the Panthers with seven goals and 17 points.

In league games alone, Castel scored the third-most goals in the NE10 with five. He tallied back-to-back braces against Southern Connecticut (Sept. 26) and Saint Michael's (Sept. 30) to earn United Soccer Coaches Division II National Player of the Week honors for the first time in his Adelphi career.

Consoli stepped into a key central midfield role in 2023 and delivered to the tune of a career-high three goals and seven points across 14 total starts. Each of his three tallies either tied the game or gave his team the lead -- including the sophomore's first collegiate brace in a 2-0 shutout of Dominican on Sept. 9.

For three years running, Jones has been a cornerstone on defense, starting all 50 of his career games as one of the team's lead fullbacks.

His leadership style earned him the captain's sleeve in 2023 and a second career NE10 All-Conference honor. The 24 goals allowed by the 'Cats were the fewest for the program since 2019.

With Castel playing along the left flank, Mikkelsen stayed on the right wing and won his first NE10 All-Conference plaudits.

Aside from playing in fewer games in 2023, Mikkelsen still ranked second on the team in scoring, setting career-highs in both goals (5) and points (12) along the way.

The Panthers concluded their 2023 campaign with a 9-8-1 finish and an appearance in the quarterfinals of the NE10 Tournament.
