Pleasantville, N.Y. - In a game with very few turnovers, the Adelphi University women's basketball team still lost by a 60-51 final to NE10 rival Pace University on Wednesday night at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
The two teams combined for just 17 turnovers in the contest, but it was Pace's late first-quarter surge that propelled the hosts to victory.
Pace (5-0, 3-0 NE10) closed out the first quarter on a 10-0 run to convert a 13-10 deficit into a 20-13 lead after ten minutes of play.
The Setters led by double digits for much of the game, but an 11-4 run had the 'Cats within two possessions in the waning moments of the third quarter.
Adelphi forced the action in the final 5:28 of that period, hitting on five buckets in the stretch -- capped by a
Christina Sanchez jumper that closed the gap to 41-36.
Although the 'Cats were within an arm's length of their opposition in the fourth, Pace made a team-high 7-of-17 field goals in the quarter to seal Adelphi's fate.
The loss spoiled a double-double night for
Jenna Jordan, who finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds in the effort.
Fruzsina Horvath tacked on a season-high-tying 11 points, as well.
Isabella Asencio and
Rolanda Robinson each poured in nine points for the Brown and Gold.
Head Coach
Sade Jackson and the Panthers will next tackle No. 16 Bentley University in an NE10 affair Saturday (Dec. 2) at the Center for Recreation and Sport at 12:30 p.m.
