Pleasantville, N.Y. - Taking on the no. 24 team in Division II, the Adelphi University men's basketball team fell to an undefeated Pace University on Wednesday, 59-81.
Adelphi (3-3, 2-1 NE10) was plagued with miscues in the opener, committing 13 turnovers to Pace's three, of which the Setters scored 14 points. First half fouls went in favor of the home team, as nine sent the Panthers to the line, where they finished 9-for-12 in just the first half.
The Setter offense nearly doubled the amount of shots the Brown and Gold took from the floor, as they landed 13 from inside the arc with Adelphi knocking down four treys. Spending majority of the first half with the lead, Pace used 45.5 percent shooting from the field to edge the competition by nine heading into the break.
Coming out of halftime, the Panthers continued to play catch up, but a near five minute scoring drought put them back by 19. It was Connor Regan's triple that broke the silence at 12:27, but the damage had already been done.
Three-pointers courtesy of
Andrew Delaney and
Matthew Price threatened to cut into the deficit, but a host run of six unanswered points closed the door on any comeback.
In the loss,
Dayshaun Walton still led the team in scoring, responsible for 14 with 5-of-7 shooting from the charity stripe.
Elijah Lewis and Regan both also reached double digit scoring with 12 and 10, respectively.
The men's basketball program will return to the Center for Recreation and Sports for another NE10 matchup, this time featuring Bentley University. To accommodate the department hosting the NCAA Division II East Region volleyball championship, the game time has been shifted up to 2:30 p.m.
