Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Hoops Holds on For 69-66 Win at SCSU

New Haven, Conn. - After spending majority of the game with the lead, the Adelphi University men's basketball team won its second straight conference game at Southern Connecticut on Tuesday evening.

A two-point edge separated the teams at the halftime break in a game that was one by just three points. Eight three-pointers for the Panthers (3-1, 2-0 NE10) proved to be the difference maker as the Owls produced 36 points in the paint and 14 second chance points.

Adelphi was down in the early going after the home team rattled off a 9-0 run to start the contest. Southern Connecticut largest lead of 10 was nearly five minutes into the game but three of four baskets made from beyond the arc quickly put the game back in the Panthers' favor. With nothing more than a pair of possessions as the difference in score, Elijah Lewis made both his free throws with three seconds in the opener to maintain the visitor lead.

A two-handed slam from Andrew Delaney at 11:11 in the second sparked an eight-point run for Adelphi, giving them the lead for good. In the ensuing ten minutes of action, the Panthers led by at-most 12, however the Owls did come within two after a 9-1 run made it 66-64. Southern Connecticut's Cherif Diarra had a chance at a three-point play with seven seconds remaining in regulation to make it a one-point game, but a miss and defensive board sent Dayshaun Walton on a fast break to seal the deal for the visiting team.

Walton led Adelphi in scoring with 20 points behind 6-of-9 shooting from the field and five makes at the free throw line. Also scoring in double-digits were Mason Jackson and Elijah Lewis with 13 points apiece. Just missing a double-double, Delaney accounted for 10 points off the bench with six boards and three assists.

Remaining on the road, the Cats will resume play following the Thanksgiving holiday with a non-conference bout at Jefferson University on Sunday, Nov. 26. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
