Mansfield, Mass. - Coming off a hard-fought game against the No. 1 team in the land, the Adelphi University men's soccer team will begin postseason competition this weekend as the No. 3 seed in the NE10 Championship field.

Despite losing three straight to end the year, the Panthers (9-7-1) come into this year's NE10 Tournament with momentum, after holding a pair of one-goal leads against No. 1 Franklin Pierce in Tuesday's regular-season finale.

Last November, as the tournament's No. 6 seed, Adelphi went on the road and stunned Assumption in penalties, although the 'Cats proceeded to lose to Le Moyne on kicks only days later in the semifinals.

This time around, the Panthers will play No. 6 seed Southern Connecticut State University in an NE10 Championship quarterfinal on Saturday (Nov. 4) at Motamed Field at 6 p.m.

Adelphi played one of its most complete games last time out against SCSU on Sept. 26. In that regular-season meeting, the 'Cats enjoyed sixty-percent possession and hung a 3-0 clean sheet on the Owls.

Senior forward Victor Castel -- who netted his first brace of 2023 in that contest -- ranks among the Top 5 scoring leaders in the NE10 with 17 points (7 g, 3 a).

Since being limited to one goal over his first seven games this season, Castel has six goals and fourteen points over his last ten games.

The Panthers are unbeaten in their last ten meetings versus Southern Connecticut, dating back to 2015. The Brown and Gold have also won all seven home games against SCSU since their return to Division II.

The winner of Saturday's quarterfinal will meet either No. 2 seed Bentley or No. 7 seed Southern New Hampshire in Thursday's semifinal, with the winner advancing to next weekend's championship game.
