Men's Soccer's Season Ends in Opening Round of NE10 Championship

Springfield, Mass. – In his first year at the helm, head coach Chris Megaloudis led the Adelphi men's soccer team to the No. 7 seed in the Northeast Championship. On Saturday night, the Panthers traveled to American International College for opening-round action.

Series History:

  • Adelphi (6-10-2, 4-5-0 NE10) ends its season in the NE10 Tournament, falling short of an NCAA Regional appearance. The Panthers are now 8-5-2 against the Yellow Jackets since September 2013, with AIC getting the better of Adelphi in both matchups this season.

Highlights:

How It Happened:

  • Matthew Murphy recorded the first shot of the game, followed by a try from Escobar, but both attempts were blocked.
  • Murphy had another chance in the eighth minute, but his shot sailed just wide.
  • Huntley missed high before AIC recorded its first shot in the 14th minute.
  • The Yellow Jackets began to dictate the pace of the game after their first shot as the ball remained near Adelphi's end for an extended stretch.
  • AIC had two high-danger chances back-to-back, but Arango made a save before the next shot hit the post.
  • Arango again made a save in the 28th minute, but the home team got on the board four minutes later on a strike from Sandro Alvarez Jimenez.
  • Adelphi earned a corner kick, and Soldo had a chance just before halftime, but the score remained 1-0 at the break.
  • After the teams came out of the half, Soldo had the Panthers' best chance of the day, but his shot rang off the crossbar and out of bounds.
  • The Panthers had momentum as they were awarded back-to-back corners.
  • In the 62nd minute, a chance from Sam Wraith sailed high right before Peter Agelis was stopped by the keeper.
  • Arango kept the deficit at just one as the Panthers continued to create opportunities in front of goal, but none were fruitful.
  • Turner, Huntley and Escobar all went for goal in the final 10 minutes, but nothing went Adelphi's way.
  • The Panthers were held scoreless, and their season ended in the NE10 Tournament.
