Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Walton Leads Men's Hoops in 85-78 Victory Over AIC

Garden City, N.Y. - Dayshaun Walton led Adelphi men's hoops in scoring on Saturday, to help the program pick up its first Northeast-10 Conference win over American International, 85-78.

The first half saw a total of 29 personal fouls with both teams shooting less than 40 percent from the field. At the free throw line, both teams knocked down 14, but had over 20 chances each. AIC's Justin Ellison knocked down a three-pointer that put the Yellowjackets up 12-4 in the early going, but a 15-9 run over the ensuing nine minutes allowed Adelphi to just trail by two. In thata stretch, majority of the team's points came from the free throw line (9-11) as they only landed three field goals.

Jarnel Rancy dropped a hook shot at 3:18 in the first that knotted the game at 27-27, but the visiting team used a 7-3 run to close out the opener and lead by six at the half.

AIC led by at-most 11 in the second, until a Walton trey evened the score at 59-59 with 10:00 minutes left on the clock. Matthew Price buried back-to-back three pointers to push the home team to a four point advantage - a lead they would narrowly hang on to for most of the remainder of the contest.

Elijah Lewis was responsible for a five point stretch that gave the Panthers a five point lead as the Cats went 5-for-6 from the charity stripe in the final 2:07.

American International converted 11 offensive boards into 15 points while both sides saw 18 points each from their benches. Eleven of Adelphi's 18 bench points came courtesy of Price, who finished 4-for-6 from three point range.

Head Coach Dave Duke and his squad will be on the road for the next three home games, starting with a conference matchup against Southern Connecticut State on Tuesday, Nov. 21. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. following the women's contest.
