Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's soccer team had its four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, in a 3-0 loss at the hands of Assumption University in an NE10 tilt at Motamed Field.
While the 'Cats possessed the ball at an alarming rate, Adelphi (6-4-1, 3-2 NE10) managed only one shot on goal in 20 total attempts.
The twenty shots still tied a season-high for the Panthers, matching the high watermark against Chestnut Hill back on Sept. 12.
Meanwhile, Assumption (3-5-2, 1-3-1 NE10) put seven of its 11 attempts on target and cashed in three times throughout the night.
A free kick from just outside the area beat Adelphi keeper
Hidde van der Hulst at the near post in the 15th minute, giving Assumption the only goal it would need.
Minutes later,
Victor Castel nearly leveled the score off a corner kick. The reigning NE10 Player of the Week's header at the doorstep sailed north of the crossbar though.
The Brown and Gold were awarded nine total corners in the match, but Adelphi still came up empty on the scoreboard.
Head Coach
Gary Book and the Panthers will conclude their non-conference schedule Wednesday night (Oct. 11) at 7:30 p.m. in Flushing at Queens College.
