Waltham, Mass. - A possible NE10 regular-season championship awaits the 'Cats on Monday, following the Adelphi University women's tennis team's 7-0 sweep of Bentley University on Friday in Waltham.
The Panthers, who last won a regular-season championship in 2019, can clinch at least a share of the title with a win over Saint Anselm College at home on Monday (Oct. 9).
While the 'Cats are idle this weekend, New Haven and SNHU both have matches in hand, as the three teams are on track toward a three-way tie with a 7-1 league record.
The No. 1 and No. 3 doubles pairings of
Katarina Liedbeck and
Roisin Boyd, and
Astrid Bergh and
Carolina Chaves continued to romp, winning 6-0 at their respective flights to improve to 9-2 on the year. As first-year partners, Bergh and Chaves have also teamed up for a stellar 6-1 conference record at No. 3 doubles this season.
In singles, Liedbeck and Boyd both triumphed 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights.
Sanne Selmer Gilje prevailed 6-3, 6-0 in her top-singles match.
Much like she did in doubles, Bergh completed a sweep at No. 4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Bentley's Anna Lang.
Caterina Federici and
Carolina Chaves put the lid on the shutout. Chaves first claimed victory at the No. 6 flight by a 6-0, 6-3 scoreline, followed by Federici's 6-1, 6-2 result in the No. 5 spot.
Head Coach
Rebecca Fakas and her Adelphi squad meet Saint Anselm at home on Monday (Oct. 9) at 10 a.m. in their final NE10 match of the regular season.
