Garden City, N.Y. - On a day that the 'Cats honored
Carolina Chaves in a pre-game ceremony, the Adelphi University women's tennis team handled NE10 foe American International College in a 7-0 decision Wednesday at the Adelphi Tennis Courts in Garden City.
A pair of 6-1 victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles by
Katarina Liedbeck and
Roisin Boyd, and
Carolina Chaves and
Astrid Bergh quickly got the Panthers (6-1, 5-1 NE10) out to the early lead.
Liedbeck and Boyd won convincingly in singles competition, as well. Liedbeck won both her sets by identical 6-1 scorelines at the No. 2 flight, and Boyd -- who is off to a stellar 5-1 start to her rookie campaign in 2023-24 -- prevailed 6-0, 6-1.
After teaming up with
Caterina Federici for a 6-3 result at No. 2 doubles,
Sanne Selmer Gilje was the next to complete her singles match, winning 6-1, 6-2 over AIC's Natalija Vlacic in the No. 1 spot.
Federici picked up a statement 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles, and Chaves -- on her Senior Day -- wrapped up the day with a 6-0, 6-2 straight-set victory at the No. 6 flight.

Rebecca Fakas and her Adelphi squad will travel to Waltham, Mass. for a 3 p.m. first serve on Friday (Oct. 6) at Bentley University.
