Jericho, N.Y. - On Thursday, the Adelphi University men's golf team finished second in its home tournament, the Panther Invitational, held at the Meadow Brook Club in Jericho.
It was the first tournament the Brown and Gold hosted since they co-hosted the Port Jefferson Country Club Intercollegiate Classic in 2013.
The Panthers finished with a total team score of 594 after 36 holes to finish second out of six schools. This was just three strokes short of the champions, St. Thomas Aquinas. However, the squad also finished 22 strokes ahead of the next closest school, Division I Hofstra.Â
Filip Wetterqvist anchored his 69 in the first round to lead the team and tie for second amongst all individuals with a total score of 3-over 145. The graduate student also finished tied for fourth in birdies with six.Â
Francis Lanuza was right behind him, totaling a 5-over 147, along with 23 pars.Â
Alec Ramos stumbled out of the gate in Round 1, but played his second round at par to tally a 10th-place finish with a score of 150. Freshman
Axel Romney and sophomore
Johnny Solari used their 75's (+3) in Round 2 to round out the Adelphi scorecard with scores of 153 and 154, respectively.Â
On the individual side,
Thomas Fasano led the way, tying for 11th overall. He let a 3-over 75 in Round 2 help him to a 36-hole total of 151.
Mason Rivera and
Kobe Currie finished with a 162 and 169, respectively.

David Mattana and the Panthers will wrap up fall play this upcoming Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 30-31), when they compete at the Metropolitan Championship -- hosted by Wagner -- at Montclair Golf Club in Montclair, N.J.
