#11 Women's Soccer Turns It On In Second Half Against AIC, 3-1

Garden City, N.Y. - A pair of second-half goals by Kayla Mushorn erased a 1-0 halftime deficit in what became a 3-1 come-from-behind win for the No. 11 Adelphi University women's soccer team in its final regular-season home game Tuesday against NE10 rival American International College at Motamed Field.

By the time the opening whistle blew, the Panthers (10-1-4, 7-0-3 NE10) were slotted at No. 11 in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25 Poll -- the program's highest national ranking since 2017 (No. 10).

With the win, the 'Cats extended their unbeaten streak to fourteen consecutive games -- previously surpassing the 2017 team's streak of thirteen straight for the longest in nearly a decade (19 games in 2015).

The victory also guarantees that the Brown and Gold can clinch no lower than the No. 2 seed in next month's NE10 Championship.

The game plan changed at the half for Adelphi, which trailed 1-0 at the break despite five corner opportunities and maintaining sixty percent possession.

Instead of playing in her usual right back spot, Mushorn settled into an attacking role in the second half, and the result was a pair of goals for the senior in a seven-minute span.

On both occasions, Mushorn got behind the defense for a 1-v-1 with the keeper. She first tucked Kayleigh Goodrich's touch underneath the crossbar in the 53rd minute to level the score.

The aggressiveness of the Panthers didn't stop there. Only 6:51 later, Morgan Salmon played a long ball for Mushorn, who streaked towards goal and put away the go-ahead tally.

Now protecting a one-goal advantage, Gia Mandile managed to deny a late AIC clearance and tapped in her team-leading eighth goal of 2023 to keep Adelphi in front for good.

The regular season reaches its conclusion with an NE10 Championship re-match at the College of Saint Rose next Wednesday (Nov. 1) at 6 p.m. in Albany, N.Y.
