#15 Women's Soccer Wins Nationally-Ranked Showdown on Senior Day, 1-0

Garden City, N.Y. - In a clash between two nationally-ranked teams, Julia Craig's first collegiate goal stood up as the only tally Saturday afternoon on a wet Motamed Field, in a 1-0 win for the No. 15 Adelphi University women's soccer team against No. 23 Saint Anselm College on Senior Day.

As the clouds have continued to pour rain on the Motamed turf seemingly every weekend this fall, the umbrellas were out for the Senior Day ceremony that preceded the opening whistle.

The team presented flowers to Maria D'Angelo, Kendra Jimenez, Daniella Mejia, Kayla Mushorn and Morgan Salmon, in recognition of their outstanding careers at Adelphi.

The Panthers (9-1-4, 6-0-3 NE10) saved one of their finest defensive performances for a must-win contest, limiting one of the conference's leading offenses to just two shots on goal.

Earning three points with the result, the 'Cats inched that much closer towards clinching no lower than the No. 2 seed in this year's NE10 Tournament.

The return of Kayleigh Goodrich sparked the goal that decided it. Goodrich ran onto a Krista Aliscio goal kick at midfield and played a pass for Craig, who put a right-footed strike off the hands of Saint Anselm keeper Maggie Warner and inside the far post for the eventual game-winner.

Craig's first collegiate goal proved to be the difference for Adelphi, which matched the 2017 team's unbeaten streak of thirteen consecutive games with the victory.

The Panthers can clinch the No. 2 seed with a win on Tuesday (Oct. 24), when they host American International College in their final regular-season home game of 2023 at 4 p.m.
