Albany, N.Y. - In its first road defeat since Sept. 16, the Adelphi University men's soccer team fell by a 1-0 final to the College of Saint Rose in an NE10 showdown Saturday at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
Until today, the Panthers (9-5-1, 5-3 NE10) had won five consecutive road decisions, outscoring their opposition 12-5 in that stretch.
Both teams were nearly even in shots in the game, but Saint Rose (5-5-4, 3-3-2 NE10) accounted for the only one that counted on the scoreboard.
As the 'Cats attempted to clear three minutes the contest, Saint Rose's Jose Clemente served in a shot that beat
Daniel De La Heras at the right post.
The Panthers nearly leveled the score twice before half, as Saint Rose netminder Leopold Dufaut just barely kept
Alessio Consoli and
Jesper Mikkelsen's attempts out of goal following re-start.
Dufaut was extraordinary again in the second half for the Golden Knights, sprawling to thwart the remaining four Adelphi shots on goal to preserve the shutout.
Adelphi had the opportunities and the slight edge in possession throughout the ninety minutes, but Dufaut astonished the 'Cats with his play between the pipes.
Head Coach
Gary Book and the Panthers now have a week off to prepare for NE10 rival American International College next Saturday (Oct. 28) at 4 p.m. in Springfield, Mass.
