Rindge, N.H. - In a game with just nine shots on goal, the No. 15 Adelphi University women's soccer team still played NE10 rival Franklin Pierce University to a 3-3 draw on Wednesday at Sodexo Field.
With a three-game road trip now at a close, the Panthers ran their unbeaten streak to twelve straight games, improving to 8-1-4 overall and 5-0-3 against NE10 competition.
In their first meeting since last year's NE10 Championship semifinal that went to overtime,
Isabella Banellis broke the seal seven minutes in for the 'Cats.
Not only did her header stake Adelphi to the early 1-0 lead, Banellis' goal was the first of her collegiate career.
The Panthers led twice in the first half, but Franklin Pierce (3-4-5, 2-4-2 NE10) answered both times. The two teams went into the half tied 2-2.
An own goal put the visitors in a hole late, yet
Gia Mandile came through with her second game-tying goal on the road trip.
With 5:31 left in the game, Franklin Pierce keeper Emilie Fox was booked with a yellow card, giving Adelphi a free-kick opportunity from the top of the area.
Although
Morgan Salmon's initial shot was blocked by the wall, Mandile followed up by slotting a loose ball inside the right post for the equalizer, resulting in the 3-3 tie.
Both teams finished the contest with eight shots apiece, with Adelphi winning the possession battle at 53 percent.
Head Coach
Brooke DeRosa and the Panthers come home for their Senior Day match against No. 23 Saint Anselm College on Saturday (Oct. 21) at 11 a.m. at Motamed Field.
