Garden City, N.Y. - Earning its second shutout of the season, the Adelphi University field hockey team handled Molloy University on Wednesday afternoon, as a part of its Breast Cancer Awareness Game, by a final score of 5-0.
After originally being scheduled to start at 7 p.m., the game was moved up to 4 p.m. and the Panthers came ready.
The Brown and Gold got on the board first after a beautiful pass from Jilian Riche across the crease set up an easy one for
Hailey Galison to break the ice.
The pressure stayed consistent for the 'Cats, as the ball stayed in the home zone for the majority of the first half, leading to nine shots and 10 corners for the Panthers in the first 30 minutes. Adelphi would go into halftime leading 2-0, after
Amanda Lee netted her 11th goal of the season on an assist from
Elisabeth Seyfarth.
To start the second half, the Panthers broke things open, scoring two goals in the first six minutes of the third quarter. Riche and
Emiline Biggin were both in the right spots at the right time, each of them scoring off of rebounds. Eleven minutes later, Biggin found the back of the net again on an assist from Lee. She assisted on both goals, finishing the match with one goal and two assists for four points.
It took the Lions almost the entire first half to tally their first shot. Furthermore, it took just over 47 minutes for the visitors to get their first shot on goal, with
Fiona Mannion making the save in her first start of the year.
The defense made things easy for Mannion, keeping the ball out of scoring circle pretty much the whole game, and helping her secure the shutout and her first win of her collegiate career.
Head Coach
Jess Mulhern and the Panthers will continue their home stretch for Senior Day in another NE10 showdown against Bentley University on Saturday (Oct. 21). Game time is set for 3 p.m.
