West Haven, Conn. - A scoreless game for over seventy minutes,
Richard DeBrosse broke the scoreless tie with 15:57 left to lead the Adelphi University men's soccer team to an eventual 2-0 victory at NE10 rival University of New Haven Tuesday evening at Kathy Zolad Stadium.
Despite being outshot in the first half, the Panthers (9-4-1, 5-2 NE10) were still in control for much of the match.
By halftime, Adelphi was enjoying 62 percent possession, although neither team was on the scoreboard yet.
It was in the 75th minute when the 'Cats finally broke through. Each of Adelphi's five shots on goal on the night came in the second half of play.
Much like DeBrosse's tally Saturday against Saint Anselm,
Matteo Lazzarini -- in the thick of an Adelphi counter -- played a low cross to the far post that the junior tapped in for the go-ahead goal.
Graduate keeper
Daniel De La Heras -- who posted his second clean sheet in as many games -- faced only one shot on goal in the second half.
With numbers forward for New Haven,
Rory Duggan found himself in a 1-v-1 with the UNH keeper, and slotted home the late insurance goal in the final minute.
Head Coach
Gary Book and the Panthers resume their three-game road trip Saturday (Oct. 21) in Albany, N.Y. at the College of Saint Rose at 3:30 p.m.
