Women's Tennis Tramples Molloy in Fall Finale, 7-0

West Hempstead, N.Y. - On Monday, the Adelphi University women's tennis team conducted a stampede of Molloy University, prevailing 7-0 over the nearby Lions at Sportime Hempstead Lake.

With the win, the 'Cats conclude the fall portion of their regular season at a stellar 9-1, and now turn their attention towards the conference tournament.

Carolina Chaves and Astrid Bergh led off the doubles portion with a 6-0 sweep of Molloy's Isabella Fortaleza and Julia Salazar at the No. 3 flight.

The No. 2 pairing of Sanne Selmer Gilje and Caterina Federici then clinched the doubles point for the Panthers with a convincing 6-2 victory.

Selmer Gilje played the most highly-contested singles match of the day, and still prevailed at the top flight, winning 6-3, 7-5 in straight sets.

The rest of the singles line-up lost a total of three games. Katarina Liedbeck, Federici and Chaves all won by 6-0, 6-1 scorelines. Bergh and Roisin Boyd triumphed without losing a game.

Head Coach Rebecca Fakas and her Adelphi squad await the winner of Wednesday's first-round match between No. 4 seed Assumption University and No. 5 seed Saint Anselm College. The Panthers will host a semifinal against either opponent on Friday (Oct. 20) at 1 p.m. in Garden City.
