#17 Women's Soccer Pulls Even Late in 1-1 Draw at Daemen

Amherst, N.Y. - A shocking 84th-minute goal by Gia Mandile was the result of a 1-1 tie for the No. 17 Adelphi University women's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon at Daemen University at Karrer Field.

In a showdown between two non-conference foes with long unbeaten streaks, the Panthers (8-1-2) rallied late to extend their current spell to ten consecutive games without a loss -- the longest such streak for the program since 2017.

Adelphi outshot Daemen 9-2 in the opening forty-five, but trailed 1-0 in the waning minutes of the contest.

In desperation mode, Dylann Trahey possessed the ball off a Kayla Mushorn throw-in, and connected with Mandile on a cross for the equalizer.

Mandile, who now has three goals in her last two games in the absence of Madison Apicella, used her right foot to tap Trahey's well-placed ball inside the far post with 6:14 remaining.

In contrast to the first half, the shots were nearly even between the two teams in the latter. The Panthers still managed sixteen total shots against the Wildcats, with two key offensive players sidelined.

Mandile led all players with five of those attempts. Carly Issing, Lola Kochansky and Mushorn all registered three shots apiece in the effort. Daniella Mejia made her first start of 2023 on the back line.

Head Coach Brooke DeRosa and the 'Cats are back in action this weekend, when their three-game road trip resumes in Waltham, Mass. with a 10 a.m. matinee on Saturday (Oct. 14) at NE10 rival Bentley University.
