Garden City, N.Y. - A near-season-high 31 made field goals resulted in an 80-75 victory for the Adelphi University women's basketball team Saturday against Saint Anselm College at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
Adelphi (9-10, 6-8 NE10) makes it a season sweep of Saint Anselm (9-11, 5-9 NE10) with today's win, following a 70-65 victory in their first meeting back on Nov. 19.
The two squads were incredibly efficient in the first half, with both teams producing better than forty-five percent shooting from the field.
A dazzling 20-point first-half performance from
Jenna Jordan highlighted Adelphi's 58.6 percent shooting performance in the opening twenty.
Although the 'Cats trailed 52-48 midway through the third, Adelphi went on an 11-0 outburst that put the hosts in the lead.
Rolanda Robinson hit the go-ahead trey, and
Ty'zhea Hawkins sank the next six points, making it a 59-52 game.
Saint Anselm managed to level the score at 68-all in the fourth, but Adelphi's stingy defense limited the Hawks to just 2-of-15 shooting in the final 8:30 of the game.
The consistent tandem of Hawkins and Jordan padded the Panther lead in the process, accounting for 15 of the team's 17 points in the quarter.
Jordan shot 11-of-17 from the field for her first career 30-point game. She also went 8-of-9 from the line and grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double. Hawkins continued to increase her league-leading scoring average with 22 points on 10-of-18 shooting.
Lauren Hammersley drilled a pair of threes off the bench and finished with eight points.
Head Coach
Sade Jackson and her Adelphi squad are back at it Wednesday (Feb. 1), when the final month of the season begins in Syracuse at Le Moyne College at 5:30 p.m.
