Women's Basketball Endures Tough Loss at Home, 67-58

Garden City, N.Y. - On Tuesday, the Adelphi University women's basketball team lost a close 67-58 affair to NE10 rival University of New Haven at the Center for Recreation and Sport in Garden City.

Despite trailing by ten from the tip, the Panthers (8-10, 5-8 NE10) twice managed to rally to within a bucket of New Haven in the opening quarter.

Kaitlyn O'Connell hit on back-to-back buckets to start the early rally. O'Connell made just her third start of the season and finished with a career-high 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting.

The lead started to creep up again for the Chargers (10-7, 7-6 NE10) in the second quarter, but Adelphi closed the gap to 30-27 at halftime.

Although New Haven shot 54.2 percent from the field in the opening twenty, Adelphi forced ten UNH turnovers to keep the game within reach.

In the second half, the Panthers scored on their opening possessions of the third and fourth quarters, and the difference in the game both times became a single possession.

The lead never swung in Adelphi's favor though. New Haven responded and repaired its lead to nine points on both occasions.

O'Connell and Jordan each dropped a team-best 18 points. Jordan also added nine rebounds and three steals in the effort.

Ty'zhea Hawkins ended her night with 12 points and three rebounds. Sydney Rosenoff stuffed her stat line with seven points, seven rebounds and six assists.

The Brown and Gold will stay home to play Saint Anselm at 1:30 p.m. in an NE10 battle this upcoming Saturday (Jan. 28) at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
