Women's Basketball Rains Threes on Franklin Pierce in 75-63 Win

Garden City, N.Y. - A total of twelve three-pointers hit bottom for the Adelphi University women's basketball team Tuesday night in a 75-63 victory over NE10 rival Franklin Pierce University at the Center for Recreation and Sport.

The twelve threes fell one shy of the team's high water mark for the season, when Adelphi dropped 13 threes at Saint Anselm back on Nov. 19.

In just the first half alone, the Panthers (7-7, 4-5 NE10) sank 10-of-13 three-point field goals and brought a 42-32 lead into the locker room.

Lauren Hammersley and Kaitlyn O'Connell each hit three treys in the opening twenty, while Ty'zhea Hawkins and Rolanda Robinson accounted for two apiece.

The three-point show exploded in the second quarter, when Adelphi's five threes grew a 21-17 first-quarter lead into a 40-27 advantage.

In the second half, the Brown and Gold exploited the post, and Jenna Jordan was there for the finish.

Over the final twenty minutes, Jordan made 4-of-6 field goals and 6-of-7 free throws to lead all players with 14 points in the second half.

Franklin Pierce (6-10, 2-7 NE10) got within 69-63 in the final minute of regulation, but Adelphi went a perfect 6-for-6 from the line down the stretch to seal the win.

Five players finished in double figures, led by Hawkins' 18 points. Jordan totaled 16 points and eight rebounds. Robinson and Hammersley each dropped 15 points. Kaitlyn O'Connell made the start at point guard and pitched in 11 points.

Head Coach Sade Jackson and her Adelphi squad are back in action Saturday (Jan. 14) with a 1:30 p.m. tip at NE10 foe American International College in Springfield, Mass.
