Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Hoops Falters Against Franklin Pierce, 74-69

Garden City, N.Y. - It was a tough evening inside the Center for Recreation and Sport for the Adelphi men's basketball program, who let a five-point lead at the break slip away, resulting in a 69-74 loss to Franklin Pierce on Tuesday.

The Ravens (8-7, 4-5 NE10) put up 47 points in the second half alone, outscoring the Panthers (7-10, 1-8 NE10) by 10 to snap their four game losing streak.

Both teams got out to a slow start, but Adelphi found its way to a six-point edge courtesy of a three-point drained by Elijah Lewis after six minutes of work. The rookie led all players with 18 points behind 7-f-13 shooting from the field. Franklin Pierce cut into that deficit however, and managed to regain the lead on a fast break in the paint just four minutes later.

Adelphi's largest lead of the first healf reached seven - on two occasions - but stood at five heading into the locker room at the break. Fourteen of Lewis's 18 came in the first half, which included two makes from beyond the arc.

Each time the hosts worked out to a two-possession lead, the Ravens came storming back with a string of points to tie the contest or bring the game within one. With 3:51 left in regulation, Franklin Pierce set off on an 11-2 tear that saw them leading by nine with under two minutes to play.

The narrow margin was too great to overcome as the game turned into a game of fouls, as Adelphi attempted to regain possession unscathed, but the Ravens always maintained their advantage.

Reigning Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week Dayshaun Walton was the second highest scorer in the contest, finishing with 17 as Ronnie Silva closed out the trio in double-figures with 14.

For Franklin Pierce, four of five starters all reached double-digit scoring with two bench players contributing nine apiece.

Adelphi will be back on the road this weekend when they travel to American International College on Saturday, Jan. 14 for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
