Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Three-Ball Wins It for Men's Basketball at AIC, 70-68

Springfield, Mass. - A three-point attempt for Dayshaun Walton landed with six seconds in regulation to lift the Adelphi University men's basketball team over American International on Saturday, 70-68.

The victory marks the second Northeast-10 Conference win for the Panthers (8-10, 2-8 NE10), who overcame an 11-point deficit in the first with Walton's heroics at the end. Four starters reached double-digit scoring with Mason Jackson coming off the bench to contribute 11 points - he went 7-for-8 at the charity stripe to help out his team.

Adelphi used an 8-3 run down the stretch in the opening frame to cut the Yellow Jacket lead to single digits, ultimately trailing by eight at the half. Andrew Delaney was responsible for a team-high 10 points and eight rebounds after the first 20 minutes of work, finishing with 14 and 14 for the contest.

A near 50-percent effort from the field in the second half helped the Panthers, which included a 9-2 clip capped with a Ronnie Silva three to bring the visitors within three. Under the ten minute mark, American Int'l was only up by one after the visiting team continued to drive to the basket.

It wasn't until 2:19 that the teams were locked at 62-all on an Elijah Lewis fast break, following an AIC miscue. The ensuing minutes were spent with the teams trading points, including the hosts holding a one-point lead with 16 seconds remaining. Lewis drove to the basket but instead kicked a pass out to Walton who put up the shot with hands in his face, as the Butova Gymnasium watched the ball go in.

With time quickly expiring, American Int'l drove to their end of the floor but an attempt went flat, resulting in a win for the road team, and extending the home team losing streak to sic.

The Panthers are back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 18 against Assumption University. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m. inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.
