Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - A nine-save performance from
Krista Aliscio wasn't enough Tuesday, in the Adelphi University women's soccer team's 1-0 loss to Mercy College at Mercy Field.
Aliscio's nine saves was her highest single-game outing since 2018, when she stopped a career-high 10 shots as a freshman at Southern New Hampshire.
Aliscio found herself in good position for much of the first half, until Mercy (3-1) broke through just before halftime off a header in the 44th minute.
The Adelphi keeper's outstanding play continued into the second half, as well. Aliscio made five of her nine saves in the latter 45 minutes and kept the deficit at 1-0 in the process.
Each of Adelphi's (2-2) five second-half shots were on target, but none of them got behind Mercy netminder Kamy Anaya.
In the 59th minute,
Hailey Franco got some space and cranked a shot that tipped off Anaya's hand and rang off the right post for the visitors' best opportunity of the match.
Alexis Hellman and
Micaella Romagno each volleyed a loose ball on target in the waning minutes that Anaya successfully turned aside.
Head Coach
Brooke DeRosa and her team's five-game road trip concludes with the start of NE10 play on Saturday (Sept. 10) at 5 p.m. against Assumption University in Worcester, Mass.
