Worcester, Mass. - With an eye on its home opener Tuesday, the Adelphi University women's soccer team closed out a five-game road trip with a 5-1 rout of Assumption University in its 2022 NE10 opener Saturday at Brian Kelly Stadium.
In total, the Panthers tallied sixteen goals across the road trip, leading to a 3-2 (1-0 NE10) start to the 2022 campaign.
Madison Apicella continued her torrid start for Adelphi. A giveaway deep in Assumption's defensive half in the 17th minute landed at the feet of Apicella, who dribbled around a defender and buried a shot under the crossbar for the game's opening goal.
Then, in the 29th minute, Apicella cashed in again, taking over on another giveaway and firing a 20-yard shot from the right flank past Assumption keeper Julia Walsh.
By halftime, Adelphi had a comfortable three-goal lead. An

Carly Issing and bounced over the goal line in the 31st minute, making it a 3-0 game.
In each of their prior two victories, the Panthers had double-digit shots on goal. Adelphi managed nine shots on target this afternoon.
Krista Aliscio made three saves in net and improved her goals-against average on the season to 1.11.
