No. 21 Men's Soccer Finishes Even in Rain at Dominican, 1-1

Orangeburg, N.Y. - On a wet, soggy pitch Tuesday afternoon, the Adelphi University men's soccer team concluded ninety minutes of play at Dominican University in a 1-1 draw.

In the minutes leading into the match, Adelphi (2-0-2) learned that it had cracked the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25 rankings at No. 21.

Although the Panthers held an 8-2 shot advantage at halftime, Adelphi trailed 1-0 on the scoreboard.

In the second half, Dominican's Jacob Owen -- who scored the game's opening goal -- was sent off with a red card in the 70th minute.

Off the re-start, Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca planted a free kick into the top-right corner of the net for the equalizing marker. The tally was his fifth of the 2022 campaign and tied him with Victor Castel for the team and conference lead.

With Dominican (1-1-2) playing with only 10 men for the remainder of the match, Adelphi spent much of the final 20 minutes in the attacking half.

The Panthers earned three corner kicks and attempted four shots over the last 7:32, but Dominican keeper David Arteaga was tall to the task in preserving the tie.

Adelphi had 18 total shots in the match and nine shots on target. A total of thirteen corners were awarded between the two teams. Daniel De La Heras stopped two shots in the Adelphi net.

Head Coach Gary Book and the Panthers now welcome in Southern New Hampshire University to kick off NE10 play on Saturday (Sept. 10) at 7 p.m. at Motamed Field.
