Garden City, N.Y. - In its 2022 NE10 opener, the No. 21 Adelphi University men's soccer team fell 2-0 to Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday night at Motamed Field.
Although the Panthers (2-1-2, 0-1 NE10) dominated the possession battle in the match, Adelphi fell victim to a pair of first-half goals and trailed 2-0 at the break.
SNHU (3-1, 1-0 NE10) jumped out to the early lead on a free kick 1:20 into the contest and had nine shots in the opening 45 minutes to Adelphi's four.
The Panthers got the bulk of the opportunities in the second half and outshot the Penmen 14-2 in the process.
Filippo Peri was twice denied on the doorstep by SNHU keeper Preston Neal, which included a header in the 63rd minute that re-directed off Neal's hands and struck the bottom of the crossbar.
Peri accounted for three of Adelphi's four shots on target in the second half.
Head Coach
Gary Book and the Panthers are in action next on Wednesday (Sept. 14) against Molloy University at 7 p.m. at Motamed Field.
