Pleasantville, N.Y. - After earning votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, the Adelphi University women's soccer team put away three second-half goals to pull away from Pace University, 4-1, on Tuesday night in Pleasantville.
The two teams went into halftime tied 1-1, but Adelphi (7-2-1, 5-0-1 NE10) quickly re-claimed its lead right out of the break.
Just 3:44 into the second half,
Hannah Franco played a long pass with her left foot towards a streaking
Maria D'Angelo, who buried what became her second game-winning goal of the season.
While both teams had five shots apiece in the final 45 minutes, the Panthers cashed in most on their four shots on target in that span.
In the 55th minute, D'Angelo manufactured another opportunity after being taken down inside the area, causing the center official to point to the penalty spot.
Morgan Salmon was then tabbed for the opportunity and converted from the spot for her first collegiate goal, which made it a 3-1 game.
With the game still in reach,
Kayla Mushorn volleyed home a
Madison Apicella corner in the 73rd, netting her first tally of 2022 in the process.
Adelphi doubled up Pace in shots (12-6) and maintained an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Krista Aliscio stopped two shots between the pipes for the Panthers.
Head Coach
Brooke DeRosa and her Adelphi squad have a nice break now before resuming NE10 play against Bentley University on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. at Motamed Field. The team will be promoting breast cancer awareness and celebrate the 40-year anniversary of the inaugural 1982 season of the Adelphi University women's soccer program.
