Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University field hockey team cruised past Southern Connecticut State University in their 2022 Northeast-10 Conference opener by a score of 9-0 on Tuesday night.
Seven different Panthers (2-4, 1-0 NE10) tallied a goal, including two by red-shirt freshman forward
Emiline Biggin and senior forward
Giana McKeough.
The Brown and Gold came out in a hurry in the first period, notching a goal at the 3:39 mark that was off a penalty corner and put in by graduate student
Kaylee Deleva and assisted by sophomore
Amanda Lee. The team pulled away after it took the initial lead.
In the early parts of the second quarter, the Panthers knocked in four goals - two from Biggin -- which were her first two of the season, leading Adelphi goal-scorer
Ali Nagy, and a near-post shot by McKeough.
Adelphi got a goal in the first few minutes of the third quarter from senior
Dailyn Annis, who scored her first goal as a Panther. Three more goals came later in the fourth quarter from sophomore
Jillian Riche, freshman
Mia Dowd, and McKeough for her second of the game.
The Owls (2-4, 1-1 NE10) had one shot on goal that came midway into the second period.
The Panthers will travel to play No. 6 Saint Anselm College this upcoming Saturday (Oct. 1) in an NE10 battle at 11 a.m.
