Garden City, N.Y. - On Saturday, the Adelphi University men's soccer team poured it on in a 6-1 victory over Saint Michael's College in NE10 action at Motamed Field.
Three goals were scored between the two teams in the first nine minutes, but it was the first of
Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca's brace that made the difference.
Although Saint Michael's (0-7-2, 0-3-2 NE10) tied it just after
Christopher Armas' first collegiate goal in the opening minutes, Descalzo executed a perfectly-placed header inside the right post 8:39 into the match for the go-ahead tally.
The Panthers (5-1-2, 2-1 NE10) took a comfortable 3-1 lead into the half, courtesy again of Descalzo, who overtook the NE10 goal lead with eight. This time, Descalzo hesitated off a through ball from
Victor Castel in the 22nd minute and beat the Saint Michael's keeper to the far post.
While Adelphi mustered only five shots in the second half, the Panthers made three of them count to pull away.
Filippo Peri struck for his first goal of 2022 in the 52nd minute, while
Michalis Clark and
Patrick Wilson tacked on later to add to the rout.
Harry Beasley made his second start in goal and collected a pair of saves in 66 minutes of work, while
Manuel Mirao subbed on for the home stretch and stopped one.
The Brown and Gold have now won their last three games and outscored the opposition by a 9-2 count in that stretch.
Head Coach
Gary Book and his Adelphi squad are back in action Wednesday (Sept. 28), with a 7 p.m. kickoff against Bentley University at Motamed Field.
