New Haven, Conn. - With 5:01 left in the game,
Madison Apicella scored the equalizing goal that resulted in a 1-1 draw for the Adelphi University women's soccer team on Wednesday at Southern Connecticut State University in an NE10 showdown at Jess Dow Field.
Apicella re-took the NE10 goal lead with that game-tying marker and still headlines all NE10 scoring leaders with 14 points.
Apicella was limited without a shot until the 85th minute, when she pivoted from 20 yards away and fired a shot from a sharp angle that found the lower right netting.
Each of Apicella's last three goals have either given her team the lead or tied the game.
Although the Panthers (5-2-1, 3-0-1 NE10) trailed for a good portion of the contest, Adelphi had the majority of opportunities, to the tune of a 14-8 shot advantage.
Ashley Borriello and
Maria D'Angelo each accounted for two of Adelphi's seven total shots on goal, while
Carly Issing,
Alexa Mihale and Apicella all had one apiece.
Adelphi also earned nine corners and held Southern Connecticut (4-2-2, 2-0-2 NE10) without a corner for the duration of the match.
Head Coach
Brooke DeRosa and the Panthers take their four-game unbeaten streak into Saturday (Sept. 24), when they host Southern New Hampshire University in NE10 action at Motamed Field at 5 p.m.
