Garden City, N.Y. - Despite another double-digit save performance by freshman goalie
Mirthe Karstens, the Adelphi University field hockey team fell to no. 2 East Stroudsburg by the score of 5-0 on Wednesday, wrapping up their tough season-opening non-conference slate.
In the start of the game, the Panthers (1-4) put on the pressure by creating four penalty corner opportunities before
sadly not putting a shot in the cage. At the end of the opening period, the Warriors silenced the crowd by a rebound shot from Madison Kline to put them on the scoreboard.
As the second quarter started, the Brown and Gold's defense held East Stroudsburg (6-0) scoreless - while allowing eleven shots in the circle. Karstens saved six out of her seven shots faced in the second period, including a penalty save at the 23:50 mark that was shot by Kline.
In the early going of the third, Kline notched her second goal of the game off a breakaway that trickled into the cage and was assisted by Jady van Gils to extend the lead. While the Warriors were still on the attack midway through the same period - Nicole Krozser tailled a goal to make the score 3-0 at the end of the quarter.
Hanna Lewis and Karaline Stemla each tabbed a goal in the last period.
Adelphi were outplayed on penalty corners 10-4 in the game.
The originally scheduled Saturday Sept. 24 Northeast-10 Conference opener against Southern New Hamsphire State University has been postponed due to covid protocols. A new date has not been set to makeup this contest. The Panthers, as a result will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 27 when they host Southern Connecticut State at 6:00 p.m. on Motamed Field.
