New Haven, Conn. - An early goal from
Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca sealed the first conference win of 2022 for the Adelphi University men's soccer team, in a 1-0 win at No. 16 Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday night at Jess Dow Field.
Each of Adelphi's (4-1-2, 1-1 NE10) last two victories have been decided by one goal.
Adelphi and Southern Connecticut (4-2-2, 1-1-1 NE10) both had two shots on goal in the first 45 minutes, but the Panthers cashed in on the one that mattered.
In fact, the first shot of the match found the mesh, when Descalzo ended a short two-game goalless streak with a right-footed touch 5:26 into the period.
It was the first game-winner of 2022 for Descalzo, who now ranks second among the NE10 goal leaders with six goals.
The Panthers limited the Owls to a near-season-low nine shots in the contest.
Daniel De La Heras earned his most crucial clean sheet yet with a career-high-tying five-save performance.
Head Coach
Gary Book and his Adelphi squad are back at it on Saturday (Sept. 24) with an 11 a.m. start against Saint Michael's College in NE10 action at Motamed Field.
