Monsey, N.Y. - In its first of two dual matches this fall, the Adelphi University men's tennis team won 7-0 in convincing fashion at Dominican University at Manny Welder Park on Saturday.
The Panthers (1-0) will now ramp up for next week's ITA East Region Championships, before wrapping up the fall against Farmingdale State College on Sept. 30 at 2 p.m.
In an early-season statement, Adelphi won all six singles matches in straight sets.
Viktor Hockl,
Reece Farrow and
Valentin Le Goupil-Maier each had an unblemished set at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Marko Jovanovic took control in a 6-1, 6-2 victory at top singles.
Gabriel Balestero prevailed 7-5, 6-4 in a close battle at the No. 2 flight.
Thiago Negrao won by identical 6-3 scorelines in third singles.
Adelphi also made quick work of Dominican (0-1) in doubles competition, where
Thomas Horsley and Negrao got the day started with a 6-1 win at the No. 3 flight.
The respective pairs of Jovanovic and Balestero, and Hockl and Farrow followed that effort with 6-2 and 6-3 results at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
The entirety of the 2022 ITA Division II East Region Championships will be played at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing.
