Garden City, N.Y. - A surge of three first-half goals catapulted the Adelphi University women's soccer team to a 3-0 win against University of New Haven in NE10 action at Motamed Field on Tuesday night.
Entering tonight's action,
Madison Apicella headlined the NE10's scoring leaders. Her tear continued only 5:17 into the match, when the freshman fired a loose ball underneath the UNH keeper from 20 yards out.
The tally was Apicella's fourth goal of the season, moving her into a three-way tie for the conference's lead in goals.
Her teammate
Victoria Colatosti is also part of that three-way tie, after netting a first-half brace.
Despite nearly picking up a hat trick on several occasions, Colatosti twice found the netting five minutes apart. First, in the 25th minute, Colatosti made a run onto an
Ashley Borriello pass and scored off a left-footed strike.
Then, in the 30th minute, Colatosti further padded the Adelphi (4-2, 2-0 NE10) lead, when she -- from a wide angle -- planted a shot inside the right post.
In goal,
Krista Aliscio played the full 90 minutes and earned her second clean sheet of the year. Aliscio stopped the only shot on target she faced, which required a diving save from the graduate keeper on a one-timer.
Head Coach
Brooke DeRosa and the Panthers are right back at home on Saturday (Sept. 17) with an 11 a.m. start against Saint Michael's College in an NE10 showdown from Motamed Field.
