Lakewood, N.J. - The Adelphi University women's soccer team poured it on early in a 6-0 shutout of Georgian Court University at Investors Savings Bank Field on Wednesday.
A three-goal first half was sparked by
Victoria Colatosti's first goal as a Panther only 55 seconds into the match. Going 1-v-1 with a defender, Colatosti bent a left-footed shot past Georgian Court keeper Alyssa Dias.
While the Panthers (2-1) tacked five goals on the scoreboard during the contest, Adelphi also limited the Lions (1-1-1) to just two shots. In fact, Georgian Court didn't have a shot over the game's first 81:28.
It is the first time that the Brown and Gold held an opponent to two shots or fewer since Aug. 31, 2018, when the Panthers accomplished the feat against Wilmington.
Madison Apicella picked up her first collegiate goal in the 29th minute, after ringing a shot off the inside of the right post that caromed into the net.
Only three minutes later,
Carly Issing beat Dias to the far post, which sent the Brown and Gold into halftime with a comfortable 3-0 advantage.
Gia Mandile,
Kendra Jimenez and Colatosti all further padded the Adelphi lead in the second half. In total, the Panthers outshot the Lions, 23-2. Fourteen of those shots were on target.
Head Coach
Brooke DeRosa and her Adelphi squad are back in action Tuesday (Sept. 6), when non-conference play wraps up in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. at Mercy College at 3 p.m.
