Wilmington, Del. - Despite falling into an early hole, the Adelphi University women's soccer team still overwhelmed Wilmington University in non-conference action Sunday at the WU Athletics Complex.
The Panthers (1-1) put 11 shots on target across the ninety-minute match and it showed in the result.
After giving up the game's first goal 4:56 into the opening half, Adelphi responded with an astounding five unanswered tallies.
Three different players netted their first collegiate goals, including
Dylann Trahey and
Lola Kochanskyj -- who provided the equalizing and go-ahead markers in the first half, respectively.
Trahey one-touched a
Madison Apicella pass inside the left post in the 26th minute to even the score, and a perfect through ball from
Alexis Hellman in the 38th led Kochanskyj to the go-ahead strike.
Adelphi added three more goals in the final 45 minutes. In grabbing a commanding 5-1 lead, the Panthers matched their single-game high from last year (Sept. 29 vs. Le Moyne).
Gia Mandile created some separation in the 52nd minute with a header that beat the Wilmington (0-1-1) keeper to the left post.
Hailey Franco twice found the mesh in a nine-minute span to seal it.
Head Coach
Brooke DeRosa and the Panthers continue their season-opening five-game road trip Wednesday (Aug. 31) in Lakewood, N.J. at Georgian Court University at 3 p.m.
