Faith Camilleri drilled a walk-off single to advance the Adelphi University softball team to the Super Regional for the first time since 2019.
East Region 1 Game 6: Adelphi 2, Caldwell 0
Alexa Sacripante started a two out rally for Adelphi in the first inning with a single on the ground to left field.
Faith Camilleri sent a double into the gap in right center and scored Sacripante for a 1-0 Panther lead.
Caldwell had runners on the corners in the third before a groundout to
Jaden Farhat ended the inning and kept the Cougars off the board.
The Brown and Gold added to the score one inning later after
Ashley Lombardi reached on an infield error that advanced her to second.
Kendall Winn pinch hit and sent the ball right back up the middle. Lombardi got under the tag at home and the Panthers went up 2-0.
With the go ahead run at the plate,
Lindsey Hibbs entered the game. She retired the next three batters in order to send the East 1 Regional to Game 7.
East Region 1 Game 7: Adelphi 4, Caldwell 3
Claire Fon came in at the top of the third with the bases loaded. Fon fielded a back hit back to her, but the throw home was bobbled and allowed an unearned run to score for the Cougars. Caldwell scored two runs in the sixth off four hits to take make it a 3-0 game.
Adelphi had no runners in scoring position heading into the bottom of the seventh inning and left five runners on base.
Ziara Shreter walked to lead-off the bottom of the last inning.
Lauren O'Neill reached on a fielding error one batter later, followed by
Brianna Pearson,
Kendall Winn and
Courtney Wengryn who all hit singles up the middle to push two runs across and make it a one run game.
Alexa Sacripante reached on a fielding error during the next at bat to load the bases for
Faith Camilleri.
Camilleri crushed a line drive into right field to bring Wengryn home and help the Panthers to their third walk-off win in postseason play.
Adelphi will now host the winner of no. 2 Georgian Court and no. 3 Wilmington next week, May 19-20, for the Super Regional.
