Worcester, Mass. - On Thursday, the Adelphi University baseball team made the trip up to Worcester for the resumption of the 2022 NE10 Baseball Championship.
As the double-elimination portion of the tournament got underway, the top-seeded Panthers (30-11-2) moved into Friday's winner's bracket with a 9-3 come-from-behind victory over No. 3 seed Assumption University at Rocheleau Field on Assumption's campus.
Adelphi now has thirteen come-from-behind victories this season and three in as many games.
Michael Storms made the start for the Brown and Gold and while Assumption (22-22) tagged him for three early runs, the southpaw settled in and faced only two over the minimum the rest of the way.
In the meantime, the Panther bats went on the offensive. The hero was
Anthony Cipri.
After
Alec Maag plated a pair with a fourth-inning RBI single that pulled Adelphi within 3-2, Cipri went the opposite way for a game-tying double down the left-field line in the fifth.
On his next turn in the seventh, Cipri delivered the spark for a six-run seventh inning with a tiebreaking two-RBI single up the middle.
Kyle Olson,
Michael Draskin and Maag all followed with RBI singles to expand the Brown and Gold's lead to 9-3.
Tommy O'Sullivan, who came on for Storms in a tie game in the seventh, worked a clean 2.1 innings and won his second-consecutive outing.
The Panthers now await their opponent in Friday's winner's bracket contest. Adelphi will face the winner of the second game today between Southern New Hampshire and Le Moyne. A start time will be announced later.
