Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University department of athletics announced the hiring of alumnus John Curto as the Coordinator of Athletics Engagement and Special Events, effective Monday, April 4.

"I am excited to be a part of such a prestigious athletic program serving as the Coordinator of Athletics Engagement and Special Events," said Curto. "I would like to thank Adelphi University and the entire athletics department for this opportunity."

Curto will be responsible for working with other on-campus organizations to create events for the student body involving athletics. He'll also manage corporate sponsorship contracts and look for other local, regional and national sponsorship opportunities. Additionally, he will oversee the department's major events, including but not limited to the Hall of Fame ceremony, Ficke Panther Golf Classic and End of the Year Banquet.

"We are looking forward to seeing how John applies his experiences at the professional level, in elevating our already high standards when it comes to campus engagement and special events," said Associate Athletic Director for External Relations/SWA, Emily Dorko. "As an alum himself, we know John will take pride in this role and reimagine some events that he potentially took part in, while making it student and community-focused."

Curto graduated from Adelphi in 2016 with his bachelor's degree in Sport Management before returning to the school to pursue his master's in the same discipline in 2018.

During his time at the university, Curto interned for the New York Lizards, New York Mets and New York Islanders in many different capacities including marketing, community outreach, community relations and event operations. Most recently, he was the Coordinator of Marketing, Special Events, Fan Development and Advertising Partnerships for the New York Yankees. Curto also held roles post-graduation with the United States Tennis Association and the New York Jets.
