Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

10 Score in No.3 Women's Lax Defeat of Southern Connecticut

Garden City, NY- The no. 3 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team was victorious on Tuesday, when they took an 18-10 decision over Southern Connecticut Owls, winning its ninth consecutive contest.

The Panthers (9-0, 6-0) continue their perfect start to the season with an unblemished record against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. The home team's impressive offensive showdown was led by Izzy Grant who totaled four goals and won a career-high nine draw controls for her team.

Five different players all finished with two goals apiece, as the home team shared the ball with four others each adding in a single tally.

Kristina Kallansrude opened the floodgates early scoring her fifth goal of the season, assisted by Christina McCabe, at 11:40 in the first quarter. The Gold and Brown went on to score four unanswered goals until Southern Connecticut's Karlie Rowe capitalized on a free position opportunity to end the quarter 5-1.

During the second quarter, the visitors continued to push back, finding three different opportunities past Adelphi's netminder, Emma Lemanski. The Owls' Bayleigh Takacs scored on a man-down possession to cut Adelphi's lead to three. The home team rattled off a 5-2 scoring run after that shot, capped off by Grant's free position shot to give the Panthers an 11-4 lead heading into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Owls scored two unanswered goals, yet still trailed by five. After more than six minutes of no score change, Adelphi scored five goals in just over three minutes, leading the visitors 16-6 at the third quarter horn. Kristina Schweitzer's tally came at the sound of the buzzer, but extended the game to running time.

The hosts forfeited four more goals to the Owls offense in the fourth quarter but Adelphi's Fiona Rafferty and Jamie Mecca managed to find a way past Southern's Sophie Kurtz, who finished with fives saves.

Pat McCabe and his undefeated Panthers will continue their season on Saturday, Apr. 9, in a conference matchup against Saint Michael's College at Motamed Field.
