Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - An extra-inning game between the Adelphi University baseball team and Mercy College finished in a 2-2 tie Tuesday at Mercy Field in Dobbs Ferry.
After twelve innings without a team breaking a 2-2 deadlock, the umpires came together and called the game due to darkness.
It was Adelphi's second extra-inning as many days, after winning a 10-inning contest at Pace yesterday.
Despite falling into a 2-0 hole in the fourth, the Panthers (16-5-1) put together productive at-bats in their next turn at the plate to quickly tie the score.
Both of the first two outs in the top of the fifth were
Anthony Cipri and
Jack Ryan sacrifice flies that scored the tying runs.
Neither team then figured out the opposition's bullpen, especially
Jacob Pedersen, who was brilliant in relief of Adelphi starter
Tommy O'Sullivan.
Pedersen threw what could equate to a full game. He pitched a four-hit shutout across 7.1 innings.with a season-high seven strikeouts.
Jacob Dannenberg added a scoreless inning, as well.
The Panthers did put a runner in scoring position in three of the final seven frames, but were unable to push across the tie-breaking run.
Head Coach
Bill Ianniciello and his Adelphi squad next kick off another conference series, this time against NE10 rival Southern Connecticut State University over the weekend in New Haven, Conn. Both doubleheaders are scheduled for noon starts.
