Syracuse, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team won a pair of games on the road at Le Moyne College on Friday afternoon, 3-1 and 3-1.
Game 1; Adelphi 3, Le Moyne 1
Adelphi (37-11, 20-4 NE10) and Le Moyne (18-22, 10-14 NE10) had five hits apiece in Game 1.
Amanda Owens helped the Panthers to a 2-0 lead with a two-out base-clearing double to right center. The runs were scored as a result of a Le Moyne error that ultimately served as the deciding factor of the game.
Ziara Shreter hit a lead-off single to start the sixth inning and
Alexa Sacripante followed with a double to left field to send Shreter home and extend the lead to 3-0. Adelphi loaded the bases after Sacripante's double for another opportunity to add to the score, but two pop ups and a ground out left all three runners stranded.
Le Moyne pushed one across in the bottom of the seventh and brought the tying runner to the plate when
Lindsey Hibbs replaced
Claire Fon inside the circle. Hibbs retired the last two batters in order for her fourth save of the season, leaving runners on first and second to end the game.
Claire Fon started the game and struck out just two batters. She retired 12 consecutive Dolphins, forcing the home team into 10 straight ground outs to prevent base runners from the third inning until the bottom of the seventh. Fon is now 19-5 on the season.
Game 2: Adelphi 3, Le Moyne 1
The Panthers got on the board early in Game 2 off
Faith Camilleri's single that scored
Courtney Wengryn in the top of the first. Two innings later, Camilleri sent Wengryn across the dish the same way for a 2-0 lead.
Kendall Winn went 2-for-2 on the game with two doubles and one run scored. She scored the third run of the game for Adelphi in the fourth inning on a RBI ground out from
Ashley Lombardi after being moved over to third by
Amanda Owens.
The Dolphins, again, waited until the reaming outs of the game to make some noise. With one out and the bases loaded,
Claire Fon entered the game for
Lindsey Hibbs in the bottom of the sixth. A ground out to
Jaden Farhat allowed one run to score. Owens fielded the next ball and threw the runner out at first to end the inning 3-1 in favor of the Panthers.
Fon finished the game and recorded her first save of the season. Hibbs took the win and advanced to 18-6. She retired eight of 23 batters faced and allowed five hits and walked none.
The Panthers will return to the diamond tomorrow at the College of Saint Rose. The teams are set to play a 12 p.m. doubleheader in Albany.
