Seven Goal Opening Quarter Snaps Men's Lacrosse Seven Game Losing Streak to Le Moyne

Syracuse, N.Y.- No matter how its stated, the no. 6 Adelphi University men's lacrosse team defeated the defending NCAA Division II National Champion Le Moyne College Dolphins on Tuesday, 13-7, to earn the Northeast-10 Conference Regular Season crown for the first time since 2019.

This is the first Adelphi men's lacrosse win against Le Moyne since April 22, 2017. A season ago, the Panthers lost three times to Le Moyne, including a double-overtime loss on Apr. 14.. This is only the fifth time since 2002 that the Brown and Gold have beaten the Dolphins, and it is their largest margin of victory ever at six points. This is the first win at Le Moyne since a 12-11 OT win back on May 5, 2015.

Five different Panthers recorded multi-goal games as the no.3 ranked Adelphi men's lacrosse topped Le Moyne in 13-7 decision to finish off the regular season at 13-1 overall with a perfect 10-0 mark in conference play.

Joseph Duchnowski, coming off his second Player of the Week award, netted a hat trick and dished out one assist. Four other players scored at least two points, as Dylan Renner finished the game with 14 saves between the pipes for Adelphi - this lands just one shy of his career-best.

Two Jason Rebaudo kick started the overwhelming offense in the first quarter, scoring back-to-back goals which led to six straight for Adelphi in a matter of nine minutes. Joe Diggle capped the 6-0 run with two of his own, absolutely stunning the Dolphin defense. Edward Perlstein edged Sam Kury at the faceoff 6-5, but Le Moyne managed to get on the board three times before the opening 15 minutes were through.

Renner's three goals allowed in the opener, were the most he would allow in a quarter for the remainder of the contest.

An early two-goal Dolphin punch helped bring the home team within two of the Panthers within five minutes of the second frame starting. Luckily for the Cats, Duchnowski tallied his 31st and 32nd point of the season to bring the lead back to four as the first half came to a close. Renner finished the first half with six saves on 11 shots on goal, helping Adelphi hold a 9-5 lead at intermission.

A perfect defensive opening to the second half kept Le Moyne scoreless for 15 minutes. Five Dolphin shots on goal resulted in five Renner saves, which included seven ground ball pickups for Adelphi and two home turnovers. Kyle Steinbach added two points to the Panther side of the scoreboard, giving them a commanding 11-5 lead ahead of the final 15 minutes of regulation.

Two early fourth quarter goals from Eamon Hall brought Adelphi that much closer to breaking the looming seven-game losing streak against Le Moyne, dating back to 2017. Renner saved three of the five shots on goal, only allowing two tallies for the final 10 minutes of play.

Adelph's victory earns them the Regular Season Champion title and no. 1 seed ahead of the NE10 Championship, slated to start this Saturday, Apr. 30. The top two seeds will earn a bye straight to the semifinal round, which will take place in Garden City on Wednesday, May 4.

More details about opponent and game time will be shared on northeast10.org and aupanthers.com at the conclusion of today's regular season competition.
