Top-Seeded Men's Lacrosse Bests #5 Bentley in NE10 Semifinals, 15-10

Garden City, N.Y. - The top-seeded Adelphi University men's lacrosse team advances to the Northeast-10 Championship game on Saturday, May 7 following its victory over the fifth-seeded Bentley Falcons on Wednesday, by a final score of 15-10.

Leading scorer in the semifinal victory was 2022 NE10 Player of the Year Joseph Duchnowski, who recorded five goals. Jason Rebaudo chipped in his own hat-trick and Nick Paris was dominant in the defensive zone with five caused turnovers.

The Panthers (14-1, 10-0 NE10), winners of 14-consecutive against Bentley, return to the NE10 Championship game for the first time since 2019, and their seventh appearance since joining the league in the 2010 season.

With a trip to the NE10 championship game on the line, the Falcons came out of the gates strong, putting the first points on the board. Duchnowski's first goal came shortly after to tie it, but two more lead changes resulted in a 3-3 game. Duchnowski finished his first 15 minutes of action with a hat-trick to give the home team a 4-3 lead heading into the second quarter.

Another hard fought frame was jump started by Eamon Hall's goal on the man-up opportunity, however the Falcon attack proved too much for the Brown and Gold. Two unanswered goals from Nathan Alviti and Conor Segreti knotted the score yet again for the fifth tie of the contest. With the clock running down, a save from Dylan Renner gave the Panthers one last shot to go up before the break. A timeout from coach Gordon Purdie preceded Duchnowski wrapping around the back of the net and putting it in behind visiting goalkeeper Keaton Roarick with four seconds left in the half. The horn sounded with the home team leading 6-5.

Rebaudo and Joseph Diggle found a sweet spot on the right of the crease as Diggle assisted on both of Rebaudo's goals for the frame. Diggle tallied his own goal at the start of the quarter, only 18 seconds after Jack Hipchen raced down the field to find the back of the net. The lead stretched out as far as 11-7, however Bentley's Ben Baldasaro got past Renner to cut the lead to three heading into the final 15 minutes of action.

With a trip to the championship game looming and Bentley surging back with momentum, two back-to-back goals from the home team was not enough to stall the Falcons offense. Two visitor goals within seven seconds of themselves brought Bentley within three. However, Duchnowski and Rebaudo's goals sealed the victory, each chipping in their last scores of the game.

NE10 Coach of the Year Gordon Purdie leads the Adelphi men's lacrosse team to its seventh conference Championship game and its first since 2019. They will host the Le Moyne Dolphins at Motamed Field on Saturday. May 7 at 4:00 p.m.
